“Into A New World,” the title of my new project, combines technique, creativity, improvisation and chance to create some unusual and surprising results.
I have always been interested in finding the abstract out of the ordinary by using the basic camera skills learned during my years of studying photography. You will find many examples of this in my collection. Recently, a discovery helped me reach a new level in my study of photography that I consider a landmark in my photographic journey. Through the technique of moving the camera while taking a shot, I opened the door to a new world that I had never seen before.
When I think about it, I had never really cared for taking tack sharp images. When I look through the viewfinder of my camera I more often see the shapes, patterns, mood and content of what I photograph. Moving the camera while taking a shot softens the background and filters out most of the distracting details. This allows the essence and the actual content to be seen, an effect that is best illustrated in Impressionist paintings.
Interestingly, “Into A New World” coincides with my move to my new home in Anchorage, Alaska, where most of these images have been taken.
